From Akkadian 𒁯𒈗𒄷 (DAR.LUGALMUŠEN /⁠tarnugallu, tarlugallu⁠/), from Sumerian 𒁯𒈗𒄷 (/⁠dar-lugal⁠/, literally great, kingly, or crowned francolin; another member of the Gallini). Compare Hebrew תַּרְנְגֹלֶת (tarnəḡṓleṯ).
