Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘀𑘽𑘞𑘳𑘨𑘜 (aṃthuraṇa), 𑘁𑘽𑘞𑘳𑘨𑘜 (āṃthuraṇa) (compare 𑘁𑘽𑘞𑘨𑘳𑘝𑘹𑘽 (āṃtharuteṃ)), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀅𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀭𑀡 (attharaṇa), from Sanskrit आस्तरण (āstáraṇa). Related to अंथरणे (antharṇe). Compare Sinhalese අතරණය (ataraṇaya).
