Borrowed from Classical Persian اشاره (išāra), from Arabic إِشَارَة (ʔišāra, sign, signal). Compare Punjabi ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ (iśārā) / اِشارَہ (īśārah), Gujarati ઇશારો (iśāro), Marathi इशारा (iśārā), Bengali ইশারা (iśara).
