Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘄𑘝𑘯 (utaḷa), probably from Prakrit 𑀉𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀮 (utthala, sandhill, dry sandy place), from Sanskrit उत्स्थल (utsthala, name of an island). Compare Hindustani اُتْھلَا (uthlā) / उथला (uthlā).
