Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘄𑘭𑘯𑘜𑘹 (usaḷaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀉𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀮𑀇 (ucchalaï), from Sanskrit उच्छलति (ucchalati) (compare उच्चलति (uccalati)). Compare उचलणे (ucalṇe). Cognate with Gujarati ઊછળવું (ūchaḷvũ), Hindustani اُچَھلْنَا (uchalnā) / उछलना (uchalnā), Punjabi ਉੱਛਲਣਾ (ucchalṇā) / اُچّھَلݨا (ucchalṇā).
