Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘌𑘖𑘹𑘽 (ojheṃ), 𑘤𑘻𑘖𑘹𑘽 (bojheṃ), 𑘤𑘻𑘖𑘹𑘽 (bojheṃ), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀯𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀛 (vojjha), from Sanskrit वह्य (vahyá). Cognate with Hindi बोझ (bojh), Nepali बोझ (bojh), Bengali বোঝা (bōjha), Assamese বোজা (büza). Compare also Kannada ವಜ್ಜೆ (vajje), an Indo-Aryan borrowing.
