Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Marathi टाकणे (ṭākaṇe), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *ṭakk-. Turner suggests a relation to Marathi टिकणे (ṭikṇe, to remain, last, persist) from *ṭikk-.
