From Old Marathi तुटणे (tuṭaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (tuṭṭaï), from Sanskrit त्रुट्यति (truṭyati). Cognate to Hindi टूटना (ṭūṭnā).
