    • c. 400 BCE, Mahābhārata 12.49.33.2:
      जज्वाल तस्य बाणैस्तु चित्रभानुर्दिधक्षया
      jajvāla tasya bāṇaistu citrabhānurdidhakṣayā.
      By his arrows, the fire lit up, with the desire to burn.
    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 6.4.5:
      द्रुमेभ्यः क्रुध्यमानास्ते तपोदीपितमन्यवः ।
      मुखतो वायुमग्निं च ससृजुस्तद्दिधक्षया
      drumebhyaḥ krudhyamānāste tapodīpitamanyavaḥ.
      mukhato vāyumagniṃ ca sasṛjustaddidhakṣayā.
      Having undergone long austerities, they were very angry at the trees.
      With the desire to burn them to ashes, they generated wind and fire from their mouths.
