From Proto-Indo-European *dus- (“bad”). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic дъждь (dŭždĭ).

Verb

दुष्यति (duṣyati)

1. to become bad or corrupted, to be defiled or impure, to be ruined, perish
2. to sin, commit a fault, be wrong
3. to spoil or corrupt (the mind)
