Etymology edit
Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀘𑁆𑀘 (ṇacca), from Sanskrit नृत्य (nṛtya), which was originally नृत्त (nṛttá). Also see नृत्यति (nṛtyati, “to dance”). Doublet of नृत्य (nŕtya). Cognate with Punjabi ਨਾਚ (nāc) / ناچ (nāc), Gujarati નાચ (nāc), Sindhi ناچُ / नाचु (nācu), Bengali নাচ (nac), Chakma 𑄚𑄌𑄴 (nāc), Odia ନାଚ (nacô), Assamese নাচ (nas).
