From Proto-Indo-Iranian *pančaHćát (“fifty”), from Proto-Indo-European *penkʷeh₁dḱḿ̥t (“fifty”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬞𐬀𐬧𐬗𐬁𐬯𐬀𐬙 (paṇcāsat, “fifty”), Ancient Greek πεντήκοντα (pentḗkonta, “fifty”), Latin quīnquāgintā (“fifty”).

      O Indra, come hither having harnessed thy chariot with twenty or thirty or forty horses.
