Borrowed from Sanskrit पथ (pathá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *patʰás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *patʰás, from Proto-Indo-European *pent- (“path”). Cognate with Assamese পথ (poth), Sylheti ꠙꠕ (fotó), Bengali পথ (poth), Gujarati પથ (path), Konkani पथ (path), Marathi पथ (path), Odia ପଥ (pôthô), Punjabi ਪਥ (path).
