Inherited from Old Marathi पातळ (pātaḷa). Cognate with Gujarati પાતળું (pātaḷũ), Hindi पतला (patlā), Odia ପାତଳ (patôḷô), Bengali পাতলা (patola), Assamese পাতল (patol). Related to पातळी (pātḷī, “level”).
