Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀟𑁆𑀟 (vaḍḍa), from Sanskrit वड्र (vaḍra), from वृद्ध (vṛddha). Compare to Punjabi ਵੱਡਾ (vaḍḍā), Bengali বড় (boṛ), Marathi बडा (baḍā), Assamese বৰ (bor), Sinhalese වඩා (waḍā, “more”), Romani baro.
