Etymology

Probably ultimately from Sanskrit विस्फोट (visphoṭa, blister, boil). Compare Pali vipphoṭita (bursting open (of a boil)). Possibly from Sanskrit विस्फारक (visphāraka), whence Pali vipphāra (diffusion), Hindi बिफरना (bipharnā, to break out, become enraged)[1].
