Borrowed from Classical Persian بیچاره (bē-čāra, “poor, helpless, pathetic”), from بی (bē, “without”) + چاره (čāra, “help”). Compare Punjabi ਵਿਚਾਰਾ (vicārā) / وِچارا (vicārā), Gujarati બિચારું (bicārũ), Marathi बिचारे (bicāre), Bengali বেচারা (becara), Assamese বেচেৰা (besera).
