Etymology edit

Borrowed from Classical Persian یونان (yūnān), from Old Persian 𐎹𐎢𐎴 (y-u-n /⁠yauna⁠/, Ionia), from Ancient Greek Ἰωνία (Iōnía, Ionia). Likely influenced by the doublet यवन (yavan, a Greek) borrowed from Sanskrit, and Arabic اَلْيُونَان (al-yūnān). Compare Bengali ইউনান (iunan).
