Etymology edit

Borrowed from Classical Persian صُرَاحِی (surāhī), from صُرَاح (surāh, clean, pure), from Arabic صُرَاح (ṣurāḥ, clean, pure), from صَرَحَ (ṣaraḥa, to be pure), from the root ص ر ح (ṣ r ḥ). Cognate with Ottoman Turkish صراحی (ṣurāhi, a decanter, carafe) (whence Turkish sürahi) and Azerbaijani sürahi.
