Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘮𑘹𑘨 (hera), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀳𑁂𑀭𑀺𑀅 (heria), from Sanskrit हेरक (heraka), हेरिक (herika). Compare Gujarati હેરો (hero).[1]
