Etymology

Borrowed from Urdu یہودی (yahūdī), which was taken from Persian یهودی (yahudi). Ultimately from Arabic يَهُودِيّ (yahūdiyy), which was borrowed from Aramaic יְהוּדָיֵא (yəhūḏāyā). See more at יְהוּדָה (y'hudá). Cognate with Assamese ইহুদী (ihudi), Hindi यहूदी (yahūdī), Urdu یہودی (ehodī), Nepali यंहुदि (yaṅhudi), Gujarati યહૂદી (yahūdī), Punjabi ਯਹੂਦੀ (yahūdī).
