From Sanskrit বহুত্ৱ (bahutva, “much, many, very”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰenǵʰ- (“thick”). Compare Sylheti ꠛꠃ’ꠔ (boúto), Hindustani बहुत (bahut) / بہت (bahut), Gujarati બહુ (bahu).
