Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀲𑀇 (kasaï), from Sanskrit कषति (káṣati), from Proto-Indo-European *kars- (to scratch). Cognate with Hindustani کسنا / कसना (kasnā) and Marathi कसणे (kasṇe).
