Borrowed from Portuguese Natal, from Old Galician-Portuguese Natal, from Latin nātālis [diēs Dominī] (birthday of the Lord). Compare Konkani नाताळ (nātāḷ), Marathi नाताळ (nātāḷ), Sinhalese නත්තල (nattala) and Tamil நத்தார் (nattār).
