From Sanskrit विचारणा (vicāraṇā, “consideration; discussion; examination; investigation; etc”); perhaps via Old Khmer bīccārnā, bicārannāha (“to consider; to examine, to investigate; to search; etc”). Cognate with Thai วิจารณ์ (wí-jaan). And cognate with Modern Khmer ពិចារណា (picaaraʼnaa).
