From Proto-Southwestern Tai *juːŋᴬ⁴ (peacock). Cognate with Isan ยูง, Lao ຍູງ (nyūng), Khün ᨿᩪᨦ, ᦍᦳᧂ (yung), Shan ယုင်း (yúng), Ahom 𑜊𑜤𑜂𑜫 (jʸuṅ).
