Etymology edit

From Pali sāmañña (generality; equality; conformity; unity; company). Cognate with Khmer សាមញ្ញ (saamaññaʼ), Lao ສາມັນ (sā man), Burmese သာမည (sama.nya.). Compare Sanskrit सामान्य (sāmānya), from which Thai สามานย์, สามานย are derived.
