From Old Khmer bejra, beja, bejña (“diamond”); ultimately from Sanskrit वज्र (vajra, “diamond; thunderbolt; vajra, Indra's weapon”). Cognate Modern Khmer ពេជ្រ (pɨc). And cognate with Thai พัชระ, พิเชียร, วชิระ, วัชระ, วิเชียร (wí-chiian).
