From แสน (sɛ̌ɛn, multitudinous, literally hundred thousand) +‎ ปม (bpom, protuberance; swelling; tumour; etc.); literally "a great many tumours" or "a hundred thousand tumours"; after Sɛ̌ɛn Bpom, a legendary figure who had undergone such a disorder.
