Etymology edit
From Old Burmese ဟင်သာဝတီ (hangsawati). ဟံသာ (hamsa, “duck”) + ဝတီ (wa.ti). Borrowed from Mon ဟံသာဝတဳ, from Pali haṃsāvatī. Compare Thai หงสาวดี (hǒng-sǎa-wá-dii).
