ღვთაება

Georgian edit

Etymology edit

Possibly from Old Georgian ღმრთეებაჲ (ɣmrteebay), which is equivalent to ღმერთი (ɣmerti) +‎ -ება (-eba). Two things to point out: the mid-root ე will get deleted due to the suffix and the root shows irregularity sometimes that it changes from ღმრთ-/ღმერთ into ღმრთე-, so we will get ღმრთეება, from here ღმრთ complex turns into ღვთ for ease of pronunciation, (compare ღმრთის -> ღვთის) and then ეე vowel combination turns into აე , so we finally get ღვთაება.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ɣvtʰaeba/, [ʁʷtʰaeba]
  • Hyphenation: ღვთა‧ე‧ბა
