Etymology edit

From Old Georgian ყუავი (q̇uavi), most probably of onomatopoeic origin. Compare Mingrelian ყვარია (q̇varia), კვარია (ḳvaria) and Laz ყვარი (qvari), ყვაროჯი (qvaroci), ყვაოჯი (qvaoci). Also compare onomatopoeiae Georgian ყვა (q̇va, caw), Mingrelian ყვა (q̇va), ყვაუ (q̇vau) and Svan ყუა (q̇ua), ყუ̂ა (q̇ûa).
