From Old Armenian ծաղկուտ (całkut), from ծաղիկ (całik, flower), whence წალიკა (c̣aliḳa). For the -ო- (-o-) ~ -ու- (-u-) correspondence compare მაწონი (mac̣oni) ~ մածուն (macun).
