Kogan, Leonid, Bulakh, Maria (2011 March 8) “Arabic influences on Tigre: A preliminary evaluation”, in Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, volume 74, number 1, →DOI, page 12, claims it borrowed from Arabic due to the pattern and the plural allegedly mirroring the Arabic plural أَقْرِدَة (ʔaqrida), which is so rare that no one has appears to have ever written it on the web.
