Etymology edit
From Proto-Germanic *mīnanǭ, masculine accusative singular of *mīnaz. The shift of *-an- to -in- can also be seen in the past participle ending of strong verbs, -ᛁᚾᚨᛉ (-inaʀ) (see there for examples) in turn from *-anaz. For more information see Ringe 2014, pages 18-20.
