Etymology
editFrom Middle Khmer ខ្មេរ (khmeer), ខ្មែរ (khmae), from Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer ក្មេរ៑ (kmeer, “Khmer, member of the Khmer ethnolinguistic group”) (first attested in c. 578). Cognate with Thai เขมร (kà-měen).
