Borrowed from Old Javanese woṅ, wwaṅ/wwang (human being, man; attendant), from Western Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *uRaŋ. Cognate of Indonesian wong, orang, and Javanese ꦮꦺꦴꦁ (wong).
