Etymology 2 edit

From ἄμβροτος (ámbrotos, immortal) +‎ -ῐ́ᾱ (-íā, abstract noun suffix). The τ (t) changed to σ (s) by palatalization. Cognate with Sanskrit अमृत (amṛ́ta, elixir of life, immortality, food and nectar of the gods). Also see ἄμβροτος (ámbrotos).
