Ancient Greek edit

Alternative forms edit

Etymology edit

Mainly a poetic word. Generally considered to be a perfect participle of verb ᾰ̓́γω (ágō, I lead), but without the reduplication. However, this makes little sense as the formation is without a parallel (save archaic ἰδυῖα (iduîa)); more probably a Pre-Greek word in -υια, like κώδυια (kṓduia).

Pronunciation edit

Noun edit

ἄγυιᾰ (águiaf (genitive ἀγυίᾱς); first declension

  1. (usually in the plural) street, highway
  2. collection of streets, city
