Etymology

From earlier Ἀρταξέσσης (Artaxéssēs), assimilated to the name Ξέρξης (Xérxēs), borrowed from Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐎫𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎠 (Artaxšaçā-), itself from 𐎠𐎼𐎫 (Arta, “truth, justice, right order”) + *xšaçā- (“power, empire”).
