Etymology edit

From Ἀχαΐα (Akhaḯa, Achaea) +‎ -ιος (-ios, adjective suffix). It is also attested as in the older forma Ἀχαιϝοί (Akhaiwoí), possibly coming via an intermediate form *Ἀχαϝyοί (*Akhawyoí).
