From Proto-Hellenic *orektós, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃reǵtós, from *h₃reǵ- (whence also ὀρέγω (orégō)). Cognate with Latin rēctus, Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬱𐬙𐬀 (rašta), English right.
