Etymology edit

No etymology. It has been suggested a connection with σπεῖρον (speîron, cover) and σπείρω (speírō, to sow) but this is impossible because "ὀ" is not a prothetic vowel. Probably related to Old Armenian ոսպն (ospn, lentil).

Pronunciation edit

Noun edit

ὄσπρῐον (ósprionn (genitive ὀσπρίου); second declension

  1. (botany) pulse, legume (of all kinds)
