Etymology edit

From Middle Chinese 收集 (MC syuw dzip, “to collect, to gather”), from (MC syuw, “to receive, to collect”) + (MC dzip, “to gather”). First appears in roughly 760 CE with the spelling 聚集 in kanbun texts.[1]

The 収集 spelling appears to be more common in modern usage.
