Etymology edit
Applied in late 19th century Taiwan during Qing rule. Pingpu 平埔族 (Píngpǔzú) and Gaoshan 高山族 (Gāoshānzú) were used interchangeably with the epithets “cooked” 熟番 (shúfān) and “raw” 生番 (shēngfān).
