Etymology

Transcription from German "Deutsch/deutsch" ("Germany, of Germany"). The choice of characters was inspired by ("morality") and 意志 ("a person's intent"). The tendency to use commendatory characters in country names was also seen in "美国" ("America", lit. pretty country), "英国" ("England", lit. flower/outstanding country) and "法国" ("France", lit. the law country).
