Compound of 持(も)ち (mochi, “the 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 持(も)つ (motsu, “to have, hold”)”) + 率(ゐ)る (iru, “to bring along”).
