  • Related to (OC *daːn, *daːnʔ, *daːns, “only”) (Pulleyblank, 1991c);
  • Related to (OC *taːn, “cinnabar; red”), as skin colour is often associated with "red" (Lau, 1999);
  • Related to Tibetan སྟར (star, to clean; to polish).
