Etymology edit
Nominalization of the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 読み切る (yomikiru, “to read completely”).
The manga sense arose from the way that yomikiri comics are standalone story lines that can be read completely in just one volume.
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
- finishing reading, reading through
- (manga) a one-shot, a non-serialised story that is wholly contained in one volume (novel or comic book published as a single, standalone issue)
