Usage notes edit

  • In Cantonese, the nasal consonant for 尿 may be weaken such that it sounds the same as 飲尿饮尿 (“to drink urine”), so 飲品饮品 or 嘢飲嘢饮 are used instead.
  • In Mandarin, 飲料饮料 (yǐnliào) often denotes a non-alcoholic drink, especially when used with (jiǔ, “alcohol”), for example:
喝酒還是飲料?/喝酒还是饮料 (Nǐ hējiǔ háishì yǐnliào?, “Would you like an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink?”).
